Comparative life cycle assessment of different vacuum insulation panel core materials using a cradle to gate approach

چکیده

The global market trend for Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) is projecting a significant increase in their uptake the construction sector. This mainly due to uniquely high-performance properties of ultra-thin insulation materials. uptake, however, can potentially be hindered by VIPs’ higher cost and environmental impacts when compared with conventional paper, first time, presents detailed evaluation impact most common type VIPs currently used different applications focus on alternating core material as main contributing component footprint. Pyrogenic silica, glass fibre, expanded polystyrene, aerogel silica/sawdust hybrid were analysed from cradle gate. study, comparative basis, demonstrates sensitivity various categories internal vacuum pressure subsequent thermal conductivity values. results show lower fibre low density polystyrene other alternatives. material, had highest out materials considered. pyrogenic silica suggest that measures such recycling alongside deployment eco-friendlier manufacturing techniques should considered if compete environmentally alternative
